Haiku round-up: Week of January 15
I love using happenings in my daily life as fodder for haiku writing, but then trying to make the resulting poems vague enough to obscure their precise subject. They feel more universal that way, and readers can maybe add their own meaning.
Still, I will tell you, this week’s inspiration included: a floofy orange cat, some deep cleaning at work, a frigid cold snap, newly resoled boots, (legal) edibles, couch shopping, and finally finishing a re-watch of Laguna Beach and The Hills.
Enjoy.
January 15
We’ve come to the end
of a nostalgic journey,
drama-free at last
January 16
Step onto the porch,
feel needles poke at your skin
Confirmed: it’s quite cold
January 17
Arm sore from scrubbing,
the ghosts of past spills erased
Blank canvas revealed
January 18
Threat level reduced,
embrace curiosity,
go on a journey
January 19
Stripes replace plain black,
but mostly they’re familiar
Dependable friends
January 20
Tingly heaviness
and a mind floating, distant
observing a trip
January 21
Imagining depth,
softness, relaxation, ease
A vast improvement
